WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Our Statement of union:

We covenant one with another to seek and respond to the Word and the Will of God.  We propose to walk together in the ways of the Lord, made known and to be made known to us.  We hold it to be the mission of the church to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in all the world, while worshiping God, and striving for truth, justice and peace.  We depend on the Holy Spirit to lead and empower us.  We pray for the coming of the kingdom of God, and we look with faith toward the triumph of righteousness and eternal life.

we COULD not put into motion god's plan on our own effort...

OUR STORY shows how it was the Holy Spirit who birthed us and at our REVITALIZATION GATHERINGS we looked forward to seeing how the Holy Spirit would continue to build us.

During this time, we were in an eagerly waiting and powerfully praying period. A time where we were asking the Spirit to descend upon us.

In Scripture we saw that at Jesus' ascension, the disciples knew all the facts and figures about Jesus that they were going to and they knew his last instructions were to go out. (Matthew 28:18-20)

And yet… God asked them to WAIT! God asked them to wait because they needed something more. They needed to be empowered. They NEEDED the Holy Spirit!!!!

Acts 1:4 “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me talk about.”

The disciples could not witness without the Holy Spirit. And neither can we.

Pray with us as we invite the Holy Spirit to mold, inspire and build us, and guide us in our faith journeys into our futures with Him.

OUR CURRENT REALITY…

It is with discernment and sorrow we share with you the promptings of the Holy Spirit to dissolve the institution of Faith UCC. God has revealed to the Leadership Team and congregation – individually and corporately – that in order to steward our time, talents and treasures most effectively for the Kingdom we will need to close. It is a big and hard ask from The Lord; but one we have stepped out in faith to say “yes” to.

Thus, we celebrated the life of Faith UCC during our last regular weekly service with a communion service and a meal with our gathered friends and members on June 30, 2019. We celebrated at the Homecoming Celebration a faithful compelling Christian community that served Jesus and the Portage Park community for the past century.

Services at Faith alternated every other week over the summer so members could visit other churches beginning away on 7/7/19 and ending away on 9/1/19. The last two worship services at Faith were September 8, and September 15.

As you prayerfully discern nudges from the Holy Spirit, we urge you yo follow the Spirit on your personal faith journey.
